About
About Our School
St. Stephens Lutheran School was started in 1943 in order to offer a Christian education to the children of St. Stephens Lutheran Church. Over the years, many changes have occurred in curriculum, personnel, and facilities ... however, the initial goal remains the same: we offer a quality, well-rounded, Christian education to the children of the congregation and to the children of the Hickory community.
We teach the "whole" child at St. Stephens Lutheran School, providing opportunities for academic, emotional, social, and physical growth within a Christ-centered learning atmosphere. We are committed to shaping the lives of our students by inspiring them to express the Christian values and qualities that matter most … honesty in word and deed, kindness toward others, respect for authority and trust in God.
Both teachers and parents see St. Stephens Lutheran School as an extension of their own family. It is our desire to partner with our parents on all aspects of their children’s education. Teachers are dedicated to their calling to instruct and nurture each precious child in wisdom, knowledge, and biblical truth in addition to the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.
St. Stephens Lutheran School is affiliated with St. Stephens Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod (LCMS).
About Our Logo
Our school logo has the letter “S” and a sword on a shield … a very simple logo and an easy way to identify our school. The logo is blue and yellow, our school colors.
The “S” stands for St. Stephens. The sword is centered on the shield and is also in the shape of a cross … symbolizing that we are a Christ-centered school. As a faith-based school we teach the love of Jesus every day.
The sword and shield also have a double meaning. First, they are tools of a “warrior”, our school mascot. Second, they have a scriptural meaning. In Ephesians 6 the Apostle Paul reminds us that as Christians we are to put on the full armor of God to defend our faith against the devil and the world. In verses 16-18 he refers to a shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God) which reminds us that our faith and life must be fought in God’s strength, depending on the word of God and prayer … very fitting for our St. Stephens Lutheran School.
May God be honored as we seek to be “warriors” for Him in this school, seeking to glorify God in our teaching and learning.
